DIY At Home Professional Headshot

With everyone on digital platforms these days, we are all familiar with the “profile picture”. While some profile pictures can be quite casual, there are others such as any of your digital programs for your job or LinkedIn where you want to look a little bit more professional. If you don’t want to spend large amounts of money hiring a photographer to take professional headshots for you, or you’re simply stuck at home, we’ve got you covered.

Here are our tips on taking headshots at home:

• Dress for success! Get yourself ready in your work attire. Doing your hair/makeup/personal grooming will give you a confidence boost!

• Use a neutral or blank wall as your backdrop.

• Make sure you have enough light by being close to a window or setting up a spotlight.

• If you have a new smartphone, use the “portrait mode” or other focused settings to really get a clear, high definition look.

• If you’re taking the photo yourself, set your phone up, and use the timer.

• Take lots of pictures/angles/smile/no smile - so you can pick your favorite afterward.

• Edit the photos using editing apps on your smartphone or computer.

• Get a second opinion - send shortlist to a friend to see what they think!
