Champions Corner: Allied World
The Virgin Pulse Health Station is a tool that allows members to sync devices, and take weight and blood pressure measurements. Allied World in Bermuda recently held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to unveil their new Health Station to the company. We learned where this creative idea came from and more about their wellness program.
Q: What was your inspiration for holding a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony?
The drive came from within the Wellness Committee who want to ensure that our employees are aware of the health benefits available to them (even within the walls of their workplace). We thought that by holding this event we could emphasize to staff that we cared about their well-being. We wanted to encourage them to visit the station at any time to check on various health items, such as weight and blood pressure, and of course it would ensure that they would get up from their desks and move around, (which is great for circulation and posture especially when doing sedentary work).
Q: How have your members reacted to the new Health Station?
Overall, employees are happy to have the station at the office. It helps them to have one central place to log their steps, and helps to track their weight and blood pressure. We’ve also supplied some “healthy” reading materials to motivate employees. The space has been transformed into a unique Wellness area, which is open and inviting. Our colleagues love the feel of the room and visit it on a regular basis to take advantage of its benefits.
Q:What other methods do you use to encourage wellness in the workplace?
We’ve promoted Walking Wednesdays, emails to the Virgin Pulse members via the VP
website to motivate them during a challenge, lunch-and-learn sessions to promote healthy eating and living, and prizes at intermittent times throughout the year to maintain and increase the levels of motivation. We encourage healthy eating throughout the course of the year by providing our VP members with various incentives. This year there is a special treat in store for our VP members, but since this has not been announced yet, we wont further elaborate, but our overall aim is to do what we can to encourage and motivate our staff and to let them know how important they are to us.
