Your Local Wellness Connection: Cayman Islands

1. Tell us a bit about your experience in the health and wellness field.

It all started as a youth when I was a national team member on the track & field, basketball and soccer team. I was always active in pursuing peak health & wellness for myself.  Having my dreams to play basketball professionally crushed, I was forced to look at another path that would bring about my passion and enthusiasm. like I experienced playing sports. Sadly, it was not in my past jobs, such as a police office, bank manager, insurance claims officer or store store manager, but in starting my fitness business and helping my clients look and feel their best. This has become my calling to use my experience in health and fitness to better serve my clients and help them become the best version of themselves “Mind. Body. Spirit.”

2. What challenges are you looking forward to in the position as Wellness Coordinator?

The challenges I’m looking forward to this position are educating and inspiring every champion to lead their organization to peak wellness. The crew of a ship only goes as far as the captain leads, a sports team will only go as far as their coach leads, and that same goes with every champion, as they’ve got the keys to lead their organizational corporate culture to the top. I’m prepared and willing to help them get there.

3. How do you see yourself making a difference in this position?

Bringing my passion and enthusiasm is what helps me connect to most of the clients I work with, as many clients are familiar with me as some are my past fitness clients who I’ve worked on Island and in the United States.  I’m known more so on Island as Coach Alton, this gives the clients a familiar face to work with that knows that health and wellness field inside out, and not just someone just filling a role/job.

4. Do you see health and wellness as a growing field?

It’s an emerging field around the world, because without health and well-being, we would all be dysfunctional. Studies are showing growing trends in mental health, stress and workplace wellness. Every organizational is researching and seeking solutions to boost employee productivity, reduce stress and lower insurance claims.
Social media is a big part of individuals' lives, as everyone is more conscious of how they look and feel by comparing themselves to others in their social media feed.
