Tabata in the Park
On March 30, 2018, corporate clients of Atlantic Medical Insurance gathered at Goodman’s Bay to participate in a free wellness event hosted by Atlantic Medical’s Zest Wellness Department.
Tabata is a type of High Intensity Interval Training geared toward improving cardiovascular health, muscle toning and reduction of stored body fat. Tabata combines four different exercises in a 4-minute circuit, with a rotation of 20 seconds of exercise and 10 seconds of rest.
With beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions offered, the event was tailored toward all ages, genders and fitness types. Participants enjoyed a lovely ocean view of Goodman’s Bay Beach while intimately welcoming a beautiful sunset.
Donovan Ingraham, Atlantic Medical Insurance’s Wellness Coordinator, states, “As Bahamians, we are experiencing major health concerns because of the increase in stress and our lack of exercise.” He also added that, “We hosted this event to give our clients a better understanding of how effortless it is to commit to at least 1 hour exercise per week.”
Based on World Health Organization recommendations, normal healthy individuals should exercise for 30 minutes, 5 days a week or 60 minutes, 3 days a week. Those that have chronic illnesses or are at risk of any of these diseases should maintain a regular exercise regimen of no less than 60 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Donovan added, “This is our 2nd year since we have introduced the “Wellness in the Park” events to our clients. Each event is hosted to make our members more aware, not only about the importance of regular exercise, but how specific exercises can help target specific goals. The only way that The Bahamas can ensure a healthier society is to make ourselves more aware. This is the basis of our Zest Wellness Program at Atlantic Medical Insurance.”
