The Nonstop Walkers Win "The Great Wall of China Challenge"
Each quarter, Virgin Pulse provides an exciting opportunity to earn points with a team challenge. This past October, The Great Wall of China Challenge encouraged teams to compile step counts over a two-week period in the hopes of reaching 54 million steps- the distance from one end of The Great Wall of China to the other.
Of the 25 teams that participated, the Nonstop Walkers of Atlantic Medical Insurance, took the top prize with a total of 1,677,723 steps collected between its 5 participants: Jan Knowles, Judith Heastie, Christine Fernander, Chereise Sweeting, Holly Ferguson (above, left to right).
The Nonstop Walkers have repeatedly shown that they have what it takes to out-step the competition. Team members have also won the previous two quarterly challenges: The Put Some Spring in Your Steps Challenge in March 2016, and The Mediterranean Challenge in July 2016.
Holly Ferguson, team captain, explains that “Consistency is the key. I have been consistent in exercising for at least 30 minutes every day, or at least three times per week, with a cheat day.” Holly’s personal best is 40,413 steps in a single day, which she achieved during this challenge. Teammates Christine and Jan also have impressive personal bests of 32,000 and 20,000 steps, respectively. The Nonstop Walkers commit to at least 10,000 steps per day, earned through activities including walking, aerobics, Zumba, biking, fitness classes and even regular housework.
