To the Fathers: Upgrading your Pre to Post-natal Status
Congratulations, you made it! Whether you’re fist-pumping in excitement or quietly scared (or both), the experts in Project Motherhood — CG Zest Wellness will have you ready to conquer anything.
You’ve made it through the pregnancy with your partner and now you have all these new routines, and dynamics. We’ve provided a few tips for you to help you know what to expect after the baby gets here. Let’s be honest, we all talk about the 10-month period of getting momma through prenatal care and preparing for the baby but not enough about what to do when you have the baby. We hope this guide will help you!
After Baby Arrives: Tips for Postpartum Life
Once your baby is here, life, routines and dynamics will change and your role as a dad is now here. Here’s how you can support both your partner and your baby during the postpartum period:
For Your Partner:
Help with baby care. Diaper changes, late-night feedings, and soothing the baby are not just "mom duties"—get involved wherever you can.
Support her recovery. Whether she had a vaginal birth or a C-section, the postpartum recovery period is tough on her body both mentally and physically. Make sure she has time to rest and prepare meals ahead of time if possible. Help with chores or take the baby for some snuggles so mom can nap or take a much-needed shower!
Be her emotional support. Postpartum emotions can be intense sometimes. Check in with her often, and if you notice signs of postpartum depression or anxiety, encourage her to seek professional help and offer to help find those resources. It’s important to stay informed what to look out for, so please check out our baby prep classes and other community resources on mental health support.
For Yourself:
Bond with your baby. Spend time holding, feeding, and playing with your baby. The more you interact, the stronger your bond will be.
Communicate openly. Post-baby life can be overwhelming for both parents. Make sure you’re communicating openly with your partner about how you’re feeling and what you need as a team.
Preparation:
Resources. There are so many helpful resources available—both through our Project Motherhood network and throughout the community. We encourage you to explore them ahead of time so you can feel confident and supported as you navigate parenthood. It’s also a great way to get a handle on everyday things, like where to find baby essentials or the best spots to pick up postpartum care items for your partner. A little preparation can go a long way in this exciting (and busy!) new chapter. You've got this—and we’re here for you every step of the way.
Final Thoughts
Building your community during your nesting time with your partner can be one of the most powerful tools for easing into parenthood. It allows you to focus on bonding with your new baby without stressing over the little things—like where to buy diapers or whether there are enough snacks in the pantry for momma. Stepping up and lightening the mental load for your growing family makes a world of difference.
Congrats again, you made it! This is your time to shine. Take it all in and enjoy every little moment.
