Is CrossFit For Me?

Is CrossFit For Me?

If you have friends or family who enjoy working out you might have heard them talk about “CrossFit”. CrossFit often gets a bad rap for being too hard or dangerous and yet there are 85-year-olds doing it. So what is going on? What is it all about? If you’re a little curious about CrossFit and looking to make a change, CrossFit might be just what you need.

What is CrossFit?

It’s an exercise program comprised of constantly-varied high intensity functional movements. Basically, CrossFit training can help you become more fit so you are more able to lift, push, pull, squat and cary anything in every day life. Since the workouts are constantly varied, your body never adapts to any one exercise or time domain. This enables your body to be exposed to many different types of exercises — and you never get bored!

Do I have to be fit to be able to do CrossFit?

No, CrossFit is scalable which means that everyone can do the same workout regardless of their fitness level. The movements in the workout are scaled to that individual’s ability. Contrary to popular belief, anyone can do CrossFit from those brand new to fitness to experienced athletes. Scaling options are also available for those with disabilities, no one is excluded.

What makes CrossFit different?

The functional movements and exercises aren’t new. However, the way we mix them up and combine them with knowledgeable eyes-on coaching, mobility and nutrition advice is unique to CrossFit. If you’re working out at home, you risk bad technique and probably not pushing your strength potential. At an ordinary bootcamp, they vary exercises, but gaining real strength may be an issue as well as certified coaching. Gyms, may give you all the great equipment, but can you drop it if it gets too heavy? CrossFit coaches have the ability to gauge your intensity. Not to mention the class sizes are small so you don’t have to worry about the coach not having enough time to correct you.

Is CrossFit dangerous?

Anything you do in life can injure you if you don’t do it correctly. At CrossFit, we take into consideration your level of fitness, flexibility and health. If you’re spending too much time on the couch right now, that’s hurting you, too! Runner’s get shin splints, tennis players get tennis elbows, strength trainers get strains, basketball players get sprained ankles, and inactive people get obese, high blood pressure and coronaries. At LifeThyme CrossFit we will instil technique before intensity. We will keep you safe by having a watchful eye on you during your entire WOD. By increasing your strength and flexibility, we will actually make it harder for you to get hurt! CrossFit done properly, is both safe and effective.
