Bahamas Cook-Off

Bahamas Cook-Off

On Friday 9th March 2018, Atlantic Medical Insurance, Zest Wellness Department held its “Company Cook Off.” Companies including Pictet Bank and Trust, The Securities Commission and The Insurance Commission of the Bahamas, Cable Bahamas Ltd. and Colonial Group International, gathered at Atlantic House to cheer on their colleagues for the wellness leaders in The Bahamas bragging rights and also win to special prizes.

The competition began precisely at 6:00 pm when the five secret ingredients were announced.  The teams had 5 minutes to plan their menu and 45 minutes to prepare and plate their dishes in front of the panel of judges.  The judges were Mr. Elmer Lowe, Property Manager at Bahamas Facility Management Maintenance Ltd, Mr. Justice Brown, Nutritional Therapist, Chef Michael Adderley, Executive Sous Chef at The Atlantis Resort, Chef Don L. Ingraham, Executive Chef at the Riu Resort, and Mr. Orannique Hamilton, Proprietor of Kaveman Kitchen Meal Prep Service.  The host for the evening was Mr. Donovan Ingraham, Wellness Coordinator for Atlantic Medical Insurance.

As the clock counted down, the aroma of the creative dishes started to give an indication of the direction each team was taking. Midway through the competition, the audience constructed their own cheers to support their team.  Shouts for Pictet and the Securities Commission were unstoppable!

The teams were evaluated on the taste, presentation, and nutritional quality of their dishes.  Each team had a representative who presented the dishes to the judges.  The judges deliberated and came to the decision of:

First Place: Pictet Bank and Trust

Second Place: Colonial Group International

Third Place: Cable Bahamas Limited

Fourth Place: The Securities and Insurance Commissions of The Bahamas

The event was lauded one of the best of many wellness initiatives Atlantic Medical Insurance hosts for clients, and spectators are already in anticipation for the next one.  AMI continues to host wellness initiatives in order to educate their insured population, and the population at large, on preventative steps they can take to reduce non-communicable diseases.

The Cook-Off helped to educate people on how to incorporate fruits and vegetables that are not commonly prepared in Bahamian dishes, while providing a bit of healthy competition!  The hope of the Zest Wellness Department at Atlantic Medical Insurance is to constantly provide wellness awareness while collaborating with local vendors to drive the message home to the Bahamian community.
