Summer Party Survival Guide

Summer Party Survival Guide

Summer season and the associated holidays and gatherings bring the opportunity to enjoy some of our favorite- though not always healthy- foods.  A party does not have to be an excuse for loosening up on healthy eating habits.  All it takes is a little preparation to feel your best while having a great time.

Plan for success at your next summer gathering with these tips:

Enjoy fresh fruit & vegetables. Serve crudité and a fresh fruit tray instead of a calorie-laden appetizer.  Try grilling fruit like pineapple and peaches for a unique dessert.

Be mindful of portions. Don’t feel guilty for enjoying the party fare or dessert- simply take a small amount of your favorites and savor every bite.

Bring your own salad. Contribute to the party and ensure you fit in your daily vegetable servings by preparing a healthy side dish or salad.  Visit your zipongo account or cookinglight.com for delicious inspiration.

Wear your fitness tracker.  It’s a great conversation starter and will remind you to keep moving!

Stay Hydrated. Feeling hungry may actually be a sign you are thirsty.  Make sure to sip plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you are indulging in alcoholic beverages.

Be a social butterfly.  Don’t miss out on the true meaning of the get-together.  Focus on catching up with old friends or getting to know someone new, and you won't have time to worry about the menu!
